Technology

PROFITABLE, LOCAL, SUSTAINABLE

Blue Meadow Energy’s cutting edge technology offers significant advantages over it’s competitors in both energy production and installation costs. Blue Meadow Energy uses the newly developed ‘grid-friendly’ Full Conversion (FC) technology. Our over-sized rotor* allows a significantly higher energy output than the technologies of our competitors. Additionally, our wind turbines use segmented blades allowing for easier transport.

Full Conversion vs. Double-Fed Technology’s

Blue Meadow Energy uses the newly-developed ‘grid-friendly’ Full Conversion technology. A comparison of different technologies is provided below:

Full Conversion (FC) Drive Train Technology

used by Blue Meadow Energy provides an excellent power quality with high efficiency.

  • It uses a permanent magnet generator; not directly connected to the grid providing gearbox protection
  • A redundancy system allows higher uptime in case of converter failure
  • FC can easily switch between 50 and 60Hz

Double-Fed (DF) Drive Train Technology

used by most competitors, is a conventional technology that has been in operation for 15 years. The shortcomings are power quality problems (e.g. no LVRT capabilities).

  • No gearbox protection as generator directly on the grid and gearbox
  • No redundancy in case of converter failure
  • DF requires complicated 50/60 Hz switch (new gearbox and generator)
  • It has patent protection by GE Patent till 2017
